The short version
- The framing plans you draw are stored in your own browser. They are not uploaded to us.
- You do not need an account, and we do not ask for your name or address.
- We show advertising from Google, which uses cookies and similar technologies.
- Our own visitor analytics are aggregate and do not use cookies.
The rest of this page sets out the detail. If anything here is unclear, email support@framingplan.com and we will answer it.
Who we are
Framing Plan operates www.framingplan.com from the United Kingdom. For the purposes of the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR we are the data controller for the limited information described below. You can reach us at support@framingplan.com.
Your framing plans stay in your browser
The framing studio runs entirely in your browser. Geometry, joist and beam layouts, symbols, dimensions and project names are written to your browser's local storage on your own device. They are not transmitted to our servers, we cannot read them, and they are not backed up anywhere. Clearing your browsing data deletes them permanently, which is why we recommend exporting a PDF or DXF of anything you need to keep.
The same applies to any floor plan image or PDF you open in the studio to trace over: the file is read locally by your browser and is never uploaded.
Feedback you choose to send
The feedback button in the studio is optional. If you use it, we receive the message you type, the page you were on, and (only if you tick the box) a screenshot of your current drawing. If you arrived through an invitation link containing a ?contributor= tag, that tag is stored with the message so we know which tester it came from. We use this solely to fix bugs and prioritize features. Do not put personal or confidential information into the feedback box; there is no need for it.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages lead people to open the studio. It does not set cookies, does not use device fingerprinting, and does not build a profile of you across sites. We see aggregate counts, not individuals.
Advertising
This site is free to use and is funded by advertising. We use Google AdSense to serve ads on the guide and article pages.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com.
- Google's own handling of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Advertising appears on the guide and article pages rather than on the drawing canvas. We do not serve personalized advertising to visitors in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area without a recorded consent choice, collected through a Google-certified consent management platform, which also lets you change that choice later. Until that consent step is in place for a given region, advertising there is limited to non-personalized ads or is not served at all.
Cookies and local storage
We use the following, and nothing else:
- Local storage (not a cookie): holds your framing projects, your unit and engineering preferences, and dismissed hints. Stays on your device.
- Session storage: short-lived flags used while a page is open. Cleared when you close the tab.
- Advertising cookies: set by Google when you consent to them, as described above.
Blocking or clearing storage for this site will not stop the studio working, but it will delete your saved plans.
Who else handles data for us
- Vercel: hosting and content delivery. Standard server logs, including IP addresses, are processed to deliver pages and to defend against abuse.
- Supabase: stores feedback submissions.
- Google: advertising, as described above.
Some of these providers operate outside the UK and EEA. Where personal data is transferred internationally, it is done under the safeguards those providers offer, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Legal bases and retention
We rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving a free tool for server logs, aggregate analytics and feedback you send us; and on your consent for advertising and measurement cookies, which you may withdraw at any time. Server logs are kept only as long as our hosting provider retains them. Feedback is kept until it has been acted on and is no longer useful, and is deleted on request.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, and to data portability. Email support@framingplan.com and we will respond within one month. Because your drawings never leave your browser, we usually hold nothing about you at all, so an access request will often come back empty. That is the intended design.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to your local supervisory authority in the EEA.
If you are a California resident, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we do not knowingly process sensitive personal information. You may still contact us to exercise your rights under that law.
Children
This is a tool for construction and design work and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information through the feedback form, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and move the date at the top. Material changes to advertising or data sharing will be reflected here before they take effect.
