Useful things to send:

  • A framing result that looks wrong. Include the span, spacing, species and grade you set, and what you expected instead. This is the most useful message we get.
  • A DXF that opened badly in AutoCAD, Revit or your CAD tool of choice. Tell us which application and version.
  • A correction to an article. Cite the code clause or table and we will fix it.
  • A feature you would actually use. Specific beats general.
  • Privacy or data requests, covered by our privacy policy.

There is also a feedback button inside the studio, which attaches the page you were on and if you choose, a screenshot of your drawing. For anything about a specific plan, that is faster than email.

About Framing Plan

Framing Plan started because the gap between sketching a floor plan and getting a framing layout in front of an engineer was slower than it needed to be. Drawing joists one at a time in general-purpose CAD is tedious, and full structural packages are priced and scoped for firms, not for someone laying out a deck, an extension or a first-pass floor.

So the tool does one thing: you draw a footprint, set spacing and direction, and it resolves joists, beams, bearing walls and openings into a drawing you can hand over. It runs in the browser, keeps your work on your own machine, and exports to the formats an engineer or drafter will actually accept.

It is run from the United Kingdom and is free to use, funded by advertising on the guide pages. The articles are written to be genuinely useful about framing, not to pad the site out. If one of them is wrong or thin, tell us.

One thing we are firm about: this is a drafting aid, not an engineer. Everything it produces is preliminary and needs qualified review before anyone builds from it. That is set out in full in our terms of use.
